  • Chlorhexidine is very well accepted as an active ingredient reducing oral malodour due to its excellent antibacterial properties (Addy 1986, Jones 1997). It is effective against supragingival plaque, as well as against the bacterial load in saliva and on the tongue.
  • Quite a few studies showed the superiority of chlorhexidine mouthrinses on the inhibition of VSC and the reduction of oral malodour measured via organoleptic scoring (Carvalho et al. 2004, Quirynen et al. 2002a, Roldan et al. 2004, Rosenberg et al. 1992a).
